Times | Chicken House Competiton
Fancy the chance to land a publishing deal with one of the UK’s most notable houses? Here’s your chance – The Times/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition is back for another year.
Plenty of time to knock out a book (no more than 80,000 words) with the deadline not until 13 October. There are loads of tips, interviews with judges and more over on the Times UK site. Go have a read and then nip to the shop for a pen, some paper and a large envelope.

I had started notching up a children’s book – it surrounds issues of the warrel community who survived on other people’s leftovers and the problems of possible extinction faced by them because of the recycling generation. It’s kinda half way there, probably age group 6-7, not sure where I should stop, what size it should be but would love to get involved with this project! Do I need to get a publisher first as you can tell even by the content of this ramble that I am a novice!
Thanks though, it’s given me a boost to keep going!
Hi Maire – halfway is pretty impressive – keep going though, the competition is looking for a full manuscript
The prize is a publishing contract with Chicken House so if you get that far you won’t need to find a publisher!
Novice or not – keep going and I’m looking forward to hearing how it goes.
(And of course, my only piece of advice to anyone – read as much as you can as often as you can)
